A Savory Einkorn Breakfast to Start the Day Right

Posted on September 15th, 2014 | no comments

Chaotic mornings often lead us to either wolf down an unhealthy breakfast or skip the meal altogether, but neither will give your body the pep you need to make it through your day! In my last post, I shared a few tips to support energy and mental focus throughout the day, and today I offer my final suggestion—a delicious and fortifying morning meal, so you can start off on the right foot.

To create a recipe that is low in gluten and provides both fiber and protein, I have integrated Gary’s True Grit Einkorn Spaghetti into a savory breakfast. You can cook fresh spaghetti or use leftover spaghetti from a previous meal.

Ingredients:

½ box of Gary’s True Grit Einkorn Spaghetti, precooked

2 handfuls of organic baby spinach

1 ½ cups cherry tomatoes, halved

5 cloves roasted garlic, chopped

¾ cup chicken stock

3–4 tablespoons olive oil

1 tablespoon ground flax

4 drops Basil Essential Oil

3 drops Lemon Essential Oil

2–3 eggs

Salt and pepper to taste

Serves 2

  1. In a large saucepan, combine garlic, flaxseed, olive oil, and chicken stock. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring continuously.
  2. Add spinach and tomatoes to saucepan and cook until tomatoes become tender.
  3. Drop Basil and Lemon essential oils into the pan and mix thoroughly.*
  4. Place the cooked spaghetti directly into the pan and stir until all the pasta has been integrated into the sauce. Once pasta becomes warm, remove from heat.
  5. In a separate pan, cook eggs as desired (over easy or poached is recommended). Divide pasta onto two plates and place the eggs on top of each serving.

Voila! You now have a unique, simple, and satisfying way to start the morning. This recipe can be customized too—simply swap out the vegetables for your own take on this easy-to-make breakfast.

We would love to hear how you have incorporated the new Einkorn products into your favorite recipes. Leave us a comment and share your newest meal idea with us!

In our last blog post, we challenged members to share their tips for staying sharp during the back-to-school season. Our randomly selected winners are: CassieK, Distributor; Sammye L., Senior Star; and Linda D., Distributor. Congratulations and thanks to everyone who participated!

* Although heating essential oils may diminish their beneficial properties, the oils used in this recipe are for flavor only. If desired, you may add the essential oils after the spaghetti is already warmed.

5 Quick Tips for Mental Sharpness

Posted on September 11th, 2014 | 43 comments

For many, this time of year can be hectic and exhausting. Between juggling busy school schedules, meeting deadlines, and everything else on your plate, having a sharp mind to stay on top of it all is crucial. I’m excited to share five practices I have recently discovered that support my mental focus and increase my energy levels:

1. Before going to sleep, I slice ¼ of a cucumber and add the slices to 12 ounces of water, then leave it in the refrigerator overnight. In the morning, I add a few drops of Citrus Fresh essential oil blend to the cucumber-infused water and drink it within 10 minutes of waking. I’ve discovered that drinking this refreshing beverage at the start of my day uplifts and wakens my body systems—after all, the brain’s functions are dependent on proper hydration!

2. Every day I try to take 15 minutes to calm my mind and focus my thoughts. Meditation can be as simple as sitting quietly or concentrating on your breathing.  Meditation has been practiced for centuries and is known for unique benefits such as increased awareness, decreased stress levels, and heightened mental clarity. I often diffuse Clarity essential oil blend or Peppermint essential oil to enhance my reflection time.

3. Sometime around my midday meal, I like to take advantage of a few cognition-supporting supplements. NingXia Nitro is the perfect afternoon pick-me-up, full of beneficial ingredients like D-Ribose and Korean ginseng extract. I also like to give my mind an extra boost with MindWise, Young Living’s new advanced brain wellness serum. Providing generous amounts of vitamin D, CoQ10, ALCAR, and GPC, MindWise is my go-to supplement for supporting my mind and memory.*

4. In addition to stimulating multiple areas of the brain, music helps minimize background noise and distractions. I have found classical music to be my ultimate distraction reducer. Whether I am at work, completing household chores, or simply relaxing, listening to my favorite composers keeps my mind motivated and engaged.

I’ll share my fifth tip with a special recipe on Monday, September 15, so be sure to visit the blog again soon! Until then, leave a comment with your tips for staying sharp and alert during the back-to-school season, and you’ll be automatically entered to win a free bottle of MindWise! Three winners will be randomly selected and announced in my September 15 post. Good luck!

Keeping Your Mind Sharp with Essential Oils

Posted on September 8th, 2014 | 23 comments

Ever get the afternoon doldrums? I usually hit a stretch in the late afternoon when I need a little extra energy to get through the rest of the day. I’ve found that inhaling essential oils directly from the bottle gives me a boost and helps clear my mind. I frequently inhale Peppermint and diffuse Jade Lemon from the Exotic Oils Collection. Adding Roller Fitments to neat or diluted bottles of oil also provides me with a quick and easy way to apply oils to my wrists, behind my ears, or even on the bottoms of my feet, where I find application to be the most effective.

Whether you are at work, school, or doing afternoon homework, there are numerous ways that using essential oils can help wake you up and refresh your mind. Here are a few oils perfect for an afternoon lift:

This Month We Pay Tribute to D. Gary and Mary Young, Pioneers of the Modern Essential Oil Movement

Posted on September 4th, 2014 | one comment

Gary and Mary Young - Young Living FoundersRecords dating back to 4,500 BC describe the use of aromatic substances to promote physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness. Despite this long history of use, the modern use and research of essential oils didn’t begin until the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The modern resurgence of essential oil use is due to the dedicated work of many important trailblazers. By creating Young Living Essential Oils in 1994, D. Gary and Mary Young became pioneers in bringing the power of essential oils to the forefront of the wellness movement and have given hundreds of thousands of individuals the opportunity to find wellness, purpose, and abundance.

6 Natural Remedies for Nausea

Posted on August 28th, 2014 | 3 comments

Almost everyone gets a queasy stomach once in a while, whether it’s motion sickness from a car or rollercoaster, morning sickness from pregnancy, a symptom of an illness, or a side effect of medications. Lucky for us, there are some simple natural remedies that can help. Here are a few tips:

  • Avoid Triggers. Pay attention to what causes nausea, and mentally mark them as “triggers” to avoid.
  • Try to avoid bothersome odors such as perfume, smoke, or certain cooking smells. Get plenty of fresh air. Using an essential oil or blend like AromaEase™ to block bothersome odors can also be refreshing and relaxing.
  • Ginger is a popular natural remedy for quelling queasiness. Look for ginger ale made with real ginger or add a little ginger to a glass of water.
  • Try sipping peppermint tea, especially after eating. Peppermint or ginger-flavored lozenges may also help.
  • If you suffer from motion sickness, optimize your position to reduce motion or motion perception. For example, driving a vehicle instead of riding in it, sitting in the front seat of a car or bus, or sitting over the wing of an aircraft.

Essential oils are also a great way to help calm and soothe the body. Peppermint, for example, has been used traditionally to support normal digestion.* Spearmint also supports digestion* and brings feelings of calm. Young Living’s new essential oil blend AromaEase™ contains essential oils to help soothe occasional stress. Diffuse, breathe in directly from the bottle, or apply topically to help support healthy energy flow and vitality.

Use any of these suggestions to help you with your queasy quandary!

Favorite NingXia Red “Shots” from Convention

Posted on August 25th, 2014 | one comment

Young Living - Club Red BarThis year’s Convention Lifestyle Expo included a NingXia Red® bar called “Club Red,” where we offered customized shots of NingXia Red, NingXia Nitro™, and Young Living essential oils. The exhilarating atmosphere left an impression on everyone! For those of you who weren’t able to attend, here are some of this year’s most requested NingXia Red shots from our Club Red “bartenders.”

“Cimply” Smooth—Ryan Seely, Young Living Associate Product Marketing Manager

My most popular shot was called “Cimply Smooth” (pronounced “simply smooth,” a play on the citrusy contents). I love the flavor of Lime essential oil, and it pairs so nicely with Tangerine to elevate the already delicious NingXia Red flavor. When combined with Frankincense, these pure essential oils awaken the mind!

Cimply Smooth

1 oz. NingXia Red

2 drops Tangerine essential oil

2 drops Lime essential oil

1 drop Sacred Frankincense essential oil

Dreamsicle—P. J. Carver, Young Living Senior Global Inventory Planner

What better way to Live Your Dream (our Convention theme) than with the Dreamsicle! The smooth and delicious citrus taste was not only great on the palate, but it was refreshing for those who had been at the Convention all day. People were lined up to experience this shot, and who can blame them?

Dreamsicle

1 oz. NingXia Red

1 drop Sacred Frankincense essential oil

1 drop Orange essential oil

1 drop Copaiba essential oil

Atomic Fireball—Aslyn Burkholder, Young Living Outbound Projects Liaison

This year my shot was called was the Atomic Fireball. I chose this combination because Cinnamon Bark is one of my favorite essential oils and gives the NingXia Red an extra zing. Plus, we all need a little cinnamon to spice up our life!

Atomic Fireball

1 oz. NingXia Red

2 drops Cinnamon Bark essential oil

1 drop Ocotea essential oil

Mind Blaster—Lisa Morris, Young Living Help Desk Technician

Two years running, the Mind Blaster has been a crowd favorite. The citrus oils uplift, while the Frankincense gives a smooth prelude to the spice of cinnamon bark. It’s sure to blast your mind!

Bring Your Bon Voyage Travel Pack for a Safer, Better, and Happier Vacation

Posted on August 21st, 2014 | no comments

Have you ever started your vacation already exhausted from late-night packing? I have! But since our convention earlier this summer, I have a new favorite traveling companion that has significantly reduced my family’s vacation stress—Young Living’s new Bon Voyage Travel Pack.

Here’s why I love this kit:

  • I can bring a Bon Voyage Travel Pack for every member of my family. This drastically cuts down on packing time.
  • Bon Voyage Travel Packs are compact and TSA-compliant, so they fit in our carry-ons and get through airport security with ease. When our checked luggage was lost on our latest family vacation, this feature was a lifesaver!
  • The toiletry bag included with each Bon Voyage Travel Pack keeps my kids and the hotel bathroom organized. Everyone knows where their personal care items, like Thieves® AromaBright Toothpaste and Morning Start™ Bath & Shower Gel, belong while they are not in use.
  • The Bon Voyage Travel Pack is an easy way to keep my favorite Young Living personal care products with me, so I don’t have to settle for cheap hotel toiletries.
  • As a bonus, these packs are also an easy way to start an essential oil conversation! During a plane ride, another passenger noticed that my daughter and I both had Young Living-branded bags. We ended up sharing Thieves® Dental Floss and Genesis™ Hand and Body Lotion.

Bon Voyage is French for “good journey”; and for my family, this useful travel companion lived up to its name this summer. It’s already become a must-have for me, and I wouldn’t think of traveling without it!
